Cooking Tips and Guide

Better Meals In No Time!

If cooking is a new adventure for you, realize that you just need to get started. A knack for cooking doesn’t just occur naturally in all people. That said, everybody has the ability to learn how to cook. In order to become a good cook, there are certain things you need to know. There are tips below that can help you start.

A simple sandwich can often be a perfect one, if you pay attention to details such as covering the bread entirely with a smooth and consistent layer of mayonnaise. A lot of people hurry and just slap the mayo on a sandwich right in the middle of the bread. Spreading the condiments evenly is the best way to create a sandwich full of flavors.

Make your own sun-dried tomatoes. Start by cutting full-sized tomatoes into 1/2″ slices or by halving Roma tomatoes. Take a cooling rack and place the tomatoes on it. Sprinkle them with salt. The next step is to put the rack on an old cookie sheet and then place in an oven set at 190 degrees for at least 10 hours. Place them in the freezer in plastic bags. You can put the dried tomatoes with fresh herbs in a jar with olive oil to preserve them. The jars can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Freeze sauces by pouring leftovers into ice cube trays. For a quick and easy sauce on another night, simply remove as many cubes as you need and reheat in a pan. The frozen sauce will keep extremely well until the next time you need it!

If you are cooking dried beans, wait until they have softened before adding garlic or salt. Both of these substances can prevent your beans from becoming softer as they cook, especially if the beans are old to begin with. Use the seasoning when you have finished cooking the beans in order to get the desired texture.

Buy your garlic as fresh as possible for any dish that needs the flavorful ingredient. Garlic that is fresh is sweeter than garlic that is not. Truly fresh garlic will not be bruised, shriveled or overly soft.

Try experimenting with saffron. Saffron can lend your cooking a bright, sunny flavor that you cannot get in other ways. The ancient herb, saffron, is still a delightful addition to any meal. It is difficult to harvest, and highly prized, so this makes it quite expensive to purchase.

Oily dishes that spatter all over your microwave can be heated more cleanly in an oven. A microwave has a high heat that will make oil separate from other ingredients in the food. When you bake the meal instead, all the ingredients are reheated at the same time, leaving the dish intact.

Add cauliflower to your mashes potatoes to make this dish healthier and tastier. Cauliflower tends to have a bland taste, so this will blend nicely with the potatoes, and will pick up other ingredients, as well. Cauliflower has the same texture and color as mashed potatoes, so the dish will be transformed into one that has more vegetables and fewer calories.

You should establish a habit of washing the dishes as you use them to cook. Beside your sink you should have hot water and rinse water on the two sides. This will prevent you from mixing clean dishes with dirty ones. This is the best method to clean up quickly after cooking.

You only need to be able to read and follow instructions to become an effective cook. It’s easier than you may believe. Take the knowledge you have gained here, and apply it to your cooking. Within no time, you will be whipping up one culinary masterpiece after another.
