When unpacking your groceries, place any unripened fruits in perforated bags. Fruit produces ethylene gas as it ripens. The holes in the bag allow the gas to escape, which will make the fruit last longer and taste better.

The downside of tasty ingredients like garlic and onions is that their flavors and smells transfer to your hands. After you have finished doing your prep work with the garlic, run your hands along the stainless steel interior of your sink. This helps clean your hands and keep you from transferring the smell onto your other foods.
