Wheat Germ And Date Triangles Recipe


2/3 cup dates

1 1/2 cups plain flour

2/3 cup brown sugar, firmly packed

3/4 cup wheat germ

125g butter

2 egg yolks

1 tbsp water


  • Cut dates into 1cm pieces. Combine sifted flour, sugar and wheat germ, rub in butter. Add egg yolks and enough water to make ingredients cling together. Add dates, knead gently on lightly floured surface until dates are well combined.

  • Roll mixture into a log shape about 35cm long, shape log into a long triangle. Wrap in foil, refrigerate for 1 hour.

  • Remove foil from log, cut into 5mm slices, place about 2cm apart onto greased oven trays.

  • Bake in moderate oven for about 15 minutes or until lightly browned. Stand for 5 minutes before lifting onto wire racks to cool.
