Sieve the plain flour, baking powder and
sodium bicarbonate together.. Cut dates into small pieces. Add water
and allow to simmer until smooth. (about half an hour). When dates are
ready, add in sugar. Then add margarine bit by bit and beat well until
margarine is melted. Let mixture cook, then add in eggs one at a time,
mixing thoroughly. Finally fold in sieved flour, powder and sodium
bicarbonate. Pour batter into greased cake tin and bake in moderate
oven for about an hour.
