Glutinous Rice Cakes With Syrup Recipe


650g glutinous rice (washed)

12 screw pine leaves (washed, shredded, and pounded to obtain 1.5 cups of juice)

1 block palm sugar

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 grated coconut

banana leaves for wrapping


Cook the glutinous rice with screw pine leaves till rice is cooked. Put aside. Soften the banana leaves by putting it over a flame. Wrap it with the glutinous as you desire. Tie it with a string at both ends. Put it in a steamer and steam over rapidly boiling water. To prepare the sauce, cook both types of sugar to make a syrup. Add screw pine leaves when cooking the syrup for its fragrance. Serve the rice cakes with syrup and grated coconut.
