Beef Serunding Recipe


Grind together

6 red chilies

5 slices galangal

15 shallots

4 tbsp coriander seeds

1 tsp cumin seeds

3 slices ginger

3 cloves garlic

2 cm fresh turmeric

1 tsp black peppercorns


500g beef ( cut into small pieces)

5 cups coconut milk

5 tbsp oil

1 tbsp salt

4 tbsp sugar

2 tbsp tamarind pulp ( mix with 5 tbsp water and strained)

500g grated coconut



Heat oil in a deep pot. Add in the ground ingredients and fry until fragrant. Add in coconut milk and beef. Bring to the boil. Then add in salt, sugar, tamarind water and grated coconut. Cook over low heat, stirring continuously until beef tender and mixture is dried.
