Hot Beef Curry Recipe


1 kg beef (cubed)

1 tbsp ground aniseed

1 tbsp ground cumin

1 tbsp ground coriander

5 dried chilies (ground)

1 stalk lemon grass

3 large onions (slice fine)

4 cloves garlic (crushed)

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

2.5cm piece stick cinnamon

1 tbsp ground black pepper

1/2 cup tamarind juice

4 cups coconut milk from 1/2 grated coconut

salt to taste

4 tbsp oil


  1. Mix the ground curry spices with a little water to form a paste and add to meat. Add ground chilies and mix well. Leave to marinate for 30 minutes.

  2. Heat oil in a deep pan and fry the onions, garlic and lemon grass until fragrant.

  3. Add the meat mixture and stir well.

  4. pour in tamarind juice and simmer gently for 5 minutes.

  5. Add coconut milk, salt and black pepper. Cover and simmer till meat is cooked.
